SHONA ART
SCULPTOR
Bevin
was the oldest
child with two brothers and three sisters. He attended Tangenhamo
Primary School and Seke High 1 in Chitungwiza. Bevin and his wife,
Esther Tsistsi Chikodzi, have three children: Tinashe B. , born in
1995,
and Tinotenda K. , born in 1997 and his princess born 2005.
His
story begins with the influence of his uncle Wellingtin Mudhokwani, a
local sculptor in Seke.
By
the age
of 16 bevin had gained an insatiable appetite for sculpting and
dedicated in his youthful energy to sculpturing. His passion for the
art soon outranked his attention to his school work.
"Mr.
Mdokwani", probably sculptor Farai Mdokwani, taught him to carve in
1987. Bevin enjoys carving "elephants, mother and child creations,
landing birds creations and other creations. I love to express my
feelings through carving. My ideas come from daily experiences and
observations."
He
is
unique among his generation:
"When I sculp I
have to do it with spirit in my work. You
can not just sculpt. According to some method or some book. You must
place your whole emphasis on the siritual content."
Bevin
works have been exhibitionated locally and in many galleries overseas
in UK, Germany, Netherland, Canada, USA, Australia, Spain, Signapore,
Japan and Begium. He represented his country at the
Expo 2000 Hannover, Germany and at the Expo 2004 in Japan.
